    Types of Patent Applications in India

    Ordinary Indian Patent Application

    The most commonly filed application by Indian inventors. The invention is disclosed for the first time before the Indian Patent Office and can be filed with a Provisional or Complete Specification.

    If a provisional specification is filed, the complete specification must be submitted within 12 months.

    Convention Patent Application

    Under the Paris Convention, an applicant who has filed a patent in a member country can file the same invention in India within 12 months, without the earlier filing being treated as prior art.

    PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) Application
